I AM NOT BORED!

Are you bored? I’ve received this question constantly since I resigned to stay home with our daughter. It’s an innocent question that I often pondered when I was pregnant. (I was afraid that staying at home would drive me up the wall.) The answer is “no” and the reasons behind the answer are numerous. You must think about boredom in order to be there. I have little or no time for such luxuries.

Our daughter wakes up around 7 in the morning and goes to bed at 8 in the evening. Keep in mind that she wakes up once or twice during the night. She’ll nap for about 1-2 hours in the late morning and early afternoon, if I’m fortunate. The 2 hours of napping is usually chopped up into 40 minutes here and 20 minutes there. I work like a dog to get things done during those naps.

What things am I referring to? I could write an entire blog on the copious amount of laundry that our little peanut produces. From bibs and burp cloths to onesies and sheets, there is always something to wash, dry, and or fold.

Doing laundry doesn’t scratch the surface of what needs to be done. There are floors to vacuum/mop, furniture to dust, a bed to make, menus to plan, grocery lists to compile, meals to cook, a dishwasher to load/unload, bills to pay, and at some point I would really like to do the freelance writing that I’ve been planning to do.

We still have a mountain of boxes in our basement that need to be unpacked and sorted. I try to ignore the basement but it’s difficult since the washing machine is down there. We’ve learned our lesson and will never move again during the same month a baby is expected.

I leave the house to go to the gym, run errands, and we’ve just started attending a “Baby & Me” group. Weekends are typically spent going to church, running errands and catching up before a new week begins. Now that she’s a couple months old, we try to do something fun every now and then.

Additionally, our friends and relatives have taken new interest in calling and visiting us since our little darling arrived. Even the best of guests require a little preparation. The life of a parent whether stay-at-home or working outside the home can be summed up in one word, busy. There is simply always something to do.
